Do you keep score? The tally in the back of your mind, keeping track of who owes you what. You did the dishes, so he should give the kids a bath. You had them over for dinner. Isn't it time for them to return the favor? You think your co-worked stabbed you in the back. On the rare occasion when your dad was in the house, he wasn't much of a dad. Then he wasn't a dad at all because he left. She looked you in the eye on that special day and made those promises. But apparently they didn't mean much, because she betrayed you and not a day goes by that you don't think about what she did.
You keep score on yourself, too. Tallying all the good you do, hoping it outweighs all the mistakes. Every day the score card gets filled. You wake up with it, walk through your day with it, and when your head hits the pillow at night, you look back on a day filled with pluses and minuses for everyone you know. What if there was a way to STOP KEEPING SCORE? What if there were an answer that was deeper than merely trying to let go? For four weeks we’re going to engage the process of KEEPING SCORE and figure out how to stop trying to make everything add up.
