I’m ready with my answer. Are you?
“Tell me. Where were you deployed?”
The question is coming; you can count on it.
You will be asked. So will I.
My mission is crystal clear.
I have served, reenlisted and was often redeployed.
Since I joined up in the early 60’s, I’ve worked on assignments in high school and college. I’ve participated in operations across Indiana and around the world.
When you sign on you come under orders. You go where you are sent. You serve as you are tasked to serve.
So tell me, where are you deployed?
I have my orders. I’m charged with leading GCC through the decades ahead. That is my duty and I am honored to serve Christ at this outpost of His Kingdom.
Though I am here for the duration, some of our comrades will receive orders transferring them to another theater of the battle. The soldiers of our little platoon at GCC are soldiers under command. Some will serve their entire career with us; others will discover the King has changed their orders and redeployed them for service elsewhere. That is His right; He is the King.
That is what has happened to my friend Tony Morgan. He has been given a new assignment. I went to the King and asked Him to reconsider this decision. He said, “No.” He has work for Tony to do at another outpost of the Kingdom. My petition was denied. My friend Tony is leaving GCC.
Tony has served with distinction for more than eight years. He held a senior level of pastoral responsibility, overseeing tremendous leaders at GCC. He was faithful to me, faithful to his mandate and faithful to our mission. As I continue serving beside you at GCC, I wish Tony well.
One day Tony will be asked the question, “Where were you deployed?” He’ll reference his resume and when he reflects on his years with me at GCC he’ll be able to say he was faithful. He fulfilled his duty. His new assignment is to serve Perry Noble at a church called NewSpring. I’m sure Tony will serve Perry with distinction. He is a man of honor.
One day a question will be put to all of us. “Tell me. Where were you deployed?”
I’m ready with my answer. Are you?
I’m deployed at GCC. Are you?
The question is coming; you can count on it.
“Where did you serve the King?”
